The basics of
timber frames
spelt out. Terms, traditional techniques/hand tools AND locally sourced
timber.
Start at the
beginning with
mortise and tenons, studs, soleplates, wallplates, jowls, pegs, braces
and tie beams.
Participants will
be able to practice working with ‘green’ oak on a live project - the
construction of a free-standing gallery platform to go inside bay 3 of
the Long House. This will involve cutting mortice and tenon joints for
posts and rails, and fitting curved braces.
Whether you're
a home-owner, or thinking of
building - this course
provides a great
understanding of how a timber frame is constructed.
