It's September 2018 and our new green-wood craft room roof is progressing
well. BIG thank-yous to everyone who has helped so far, we've raised
£291.19. However we still have £81.71 to go! Can you help? Scroll down for 'donate' button.
It
comprises of 'earth-fast' Elm and Oak posts facing the teaching
yard. They have had their feet charred
before digging them into the ground. Two Y-posts have been positioned
either end. In true vernacular style, these posts use natural shapes to
support the Elm
round-wood wall plates which in turn support rafters.
This
photograph shows the back of the roof which is supported by an earth
wall we reinstated a few years back.
Shingle
and batten production is going well. There is a small army of
volunteers working on a weekly basis to cleave and dress shingles and
battens. At the current rate we hope to complete the fitting by 1st December 2018.
However
it is the cost of the annular ringshank stainless steel nails which
will slow us down. At
5p each that might not sound a lot, but when you multiply that by 5,400
shingles plus 2,058 to fit battens it all adds up to £372.90.
Please can you help? £5 will pay
for 100 nails, £25 will pay for 500 and £50 for 1000 (that's
approximately an 1/8th of the roof)
Add your name to those who have supported
our work. Make a donation now and we will write your
name in bold letters on the inside of the shingle roof.
